Advancement possibilities highlighted this month: Achievements 3D, 3G; Elective 20 (when boys create an original skit) Tiger Cubs will explore how eating the correct foods and getting enough physical activity will help them to power up. The boys will learn what types of foods they should eat and how much activity they need. They will participate in fun physical activities and make a kite they can fly indoors! This month, Tiger Cubs will also learn the rules of a sport and have the opportunity to observe serious athletes compete in the sport. You can be sure that those serious athletes eat right and get plenty of physical activity. Now the Tiger Cubs will know how they, too, can prepare to be fit and ready for sports or for life’s challenges—nd have fun doing it. These items were taken directly from Program Helps | Physical Fitness Challenge Materials: Instruction card and equipment needed for each chosen activity Choose three or four physical fitness activities from the Cub Scout Leader How-To Book or from the activities given here. Set up separate stations for each activity; have the instruction card and all the necessary equipment for three or four Tiger Cubs to do the activity at each station. Travel from station to station in a single direction; e.g., clockwise or counterclockwise. | MyPyramid Poster (Achievement 3D) Materials: Pictures, models, or samples of foods from the different food groups; copy of MyPyramid from a Web site such as ww.mypyramid.gov/kids Follow directions in the Tiger Cub Handbook for Achievement 3D and make a poster. MyPyramid Snack Mix (Achievement 3D) Ingredients: Whole-grain cereals; freeze-dried peas (available at oriental food stores or where backpacking supplies are sold); dried fruits such as raisins, apricots, pineapple, or cranberries; peanuts or soy nuts. Using MyPyramid as a guide, review the food group that each ingredient belongs to. Point out the number of servings recommended. As food is introduced, add it to a large plastic bag. (Note any allergies and provide alternatives if necessary.) When everything has been added, mix well. Add a representative of the milk group— drink milk with your snack. | Game: Power of a Minute Equipment: Clock or stopwatch to count down one minute The leader has the clock or watch. Players stand in a line. Tell the players they are to guess when exactly one minute has elapsed. The leader notes the start of the clock, which is visible only to him or her. As each player thinks one minute has passed, he sits down. Continue until all players think one minute has elapsed. The winner is the one who guessed closest to one minute. |

Tiger Cubs is an exciting introduction to the scouting program for first grade boys (or 7 years old) excited to get going! Tiger Cubs do stuff - lots of stuff - with their adult partners. This program is intended to open up the world to inquisitive minds along with the caring guidance of adults. The first steps along the Boy Scout Trail are laid here and every rank advancement through the scouting program builds on the basic categories of activity done as tigers.
The Tiger Cub program runs on two levels. The scout and his adult partner meet weekly to do activities centered around the family. Then, the scout and adult partner meet with the rest of the tiger den to fulfill Den Activity and Go See It requirements.

Good Evening Tiger Leaders
Welcome to Scouting!!!!
Rick, Woody, Dave, and Wendy, welcome to Pack 500; Kevin, Sherry, Dan, and Elicia welcome back!!!!
This will be an exciting year for your scouts and a test of patience for you. Your young scouts will fight you on going to meetings and outings but will not want to leave once they arrive, so remember PATIENCE.
The Pack is working on a schedule for each rank, to try and take alot of the guess work out of being a new leader. The internet has a wealth of information and our website has links to help you along. One tool I would recommend utilizing is the Tiger Trax link.
Our Pack holds one fund raiser a year, POPCORN sales, in September and October. This introduces our scouts to salesmanship, empowers them by earning their own way thru scouts and helps our parents out, as the money raised pays for Pinewood Derby cars, Awards, Blue & Gold dinner, scout hand books, and neckerchifs.
If planned properly we can run the scouting program by just contributing just 4-6 hours a month.
1 hour Den meeting
1 hour Pack meeting
2 hour Go See It.
The Den meeting will require more time from the leaders for set up, but do not be afraid to get your parents involved. Task them to pick up material or cut paper.
We rotate homes, this again empowers the boys and makes it more friendly creating a better bond among the boys. The scout which hosts the meeting is a Denner and is in charge of his den at the Den meeting and the pack meeting. We will go into this in greater detail at a later date.
Please mark your calendar for these important dates:
Training, Sep 15, 6:00 Northside Church of Christ Training is both required by BSA and very helpful. You will be given alot of helpful information by your peers.
Pack Meeting, Sep 24th, This will be a great introduction to our monthly Pack meetings. We hand out awards to each scout recognizing them for their hard work, we have put on short skits, and hold events such as Pinewood Derby, Catapult competitions and food drives.
Feel free to call anytime
Have a Great day

There are many examples of schedules. We will post some Pack 500 schedules soon. Here is an example from www.BoyScoutTrail.com You will notice that the Leaders do not host every meeting -- they share the load with other parents.
2 den meetings each month (2nd Thursday at 6pm for 1 hr, 4th Sunday at 2pm for 2 hrs)
1 pack meeting each month – Thursday at 7pm
The Adult Guide is responsible for planning and leading the den activities and Go See It activities for the month. The guide uses a Den Meeting Planner document to organize the plan and gives it to the den leader for review at least 2 weeks before the month begins.
A blank version of this document is available here.
| MONTH | Guide | Activities |
| September | Dave | Your program will probably start after the first Pack meeting of the year so there won't be much time in September for den activities. Be sure to tell your advancement chairperson how many Tiger Totems and Bobcat ranks are needed well before the pack meeting. Den Mtg: Explain the Tiger program and that scouts will first earn a Tiger Totem, then Bobcat badge, and then start on Tiger achievements. The Tiger Totem is used to track advancement and requires a Tiger to learn the Cub Scout Motto (Do Your Best), Cub Scout Sign, and Cub Scout Salute. So, scouts should earn this after just one meeting. Start teaching the Bobcat Requirements (Cub Scout promise, motto, sign, handshake, salute, Law of the Pack, and what Webelos means) so the scouts are ready to receive their Bobcat rank at the October pack meeting. See Bobcat Requirements for details. Do #1D (Make a Family Scrapbook). Each scout gets a 3-prong cardboard folder with punched typing paper. Decorate the covers and make a title page. Insert a dozen blank pages. Doing this now gives the scouts some place to keep all their memories of the year. Plan #1F (chores at home). Give each scout and partner paper or poster board on which to make a chart listing the chosen chore and dates it will be done. The scout and adult should work together to decide on a chore and how they will do it together. Decide where to take a hike for the den Go See It outing next month. Go See It: Family: Do #1F (chores at home) |
| October | Andy | Den Mtg: Do #2D (Pledge of Allegiance) at the den meeting. Practice the Bobcat requirements. Now, at every meeting you can have a flag ceremony and repeat the pledge and motto using the salute and sign. Do Elective #35 by playing a couple of fun outdoor games - see Tiger Cub Games. Go See It: Do #5G (take a hike) at the end of the month. It may be more difficult to do outdoors activities later in the year and this will be a good way for the scouts to become a den. Bring along healthy snacks and each scout should have a water bottle. Include a picnic lunch in the hike to fulfill Elective #22 if you want. Family: Do #3Fa (fire drill) Pack Meeting: Receive Bobcat badge and Tiger totem. |
| November | Dean | Den Mtg: Do #5D (leaf rubbing) - go on a short hike to collect leafs and then bring them back and make rubbings. Elective #15 can be done while discussing the colors of the leafs. Talk about the rules of football to prepare for the Go See It outing. Introduce #5F (watch the weather) so the scouts and adults can do it on their own this month. Can make a chart to track how many days were sunny, cloudy, rainy, snowy this month. Go See It: Do #3G (watch a sporting event) - a local high school football game can be a pretty exciting event. Family: #5F (watch the weather) |
December . . . etc
This will be Den 14's area to post schedules and announcements.
My name is Rick R.; Woody and I will serve as Den Leaders for Den 14 (Boy Scouts requires two-deep leadership).
There are many web resources that describe Scouting and its heritage. We have many of them listed on our Links page.
The BSA leadership likes for Scouting to be a Year-Round Program. We are doing our best to resource that goal. In an ongoing effort to keep everyone informed, here are some events in the near future.
The Den Leaders for Den 15 are Dan G. and Kevin W. They are both Eagle Scouts, so look for lots of fun and excitement out of den activities.

Greetings new Tigers! We have seven boys in our den, and we are looking forward to a great year. The Den Leaders are Dave G. and Wendy E. This page will include announcements and schedules for our exciting den meetings and field trips (called "Go and See It" outings). Talk with you soon!
